In our years of experience working in the water damage restoration industry, the team at More Floods has perfected the step-by-step process every water damage job should follow. Through trial and error, we have seen exactly what works and what doesn’t. Creating More Floods was centered around our goal to enable water damage business owners like yourself to perfect their marketing and operational strategies, bringing in more floods and keep your business like a well-oiled machine.
Let’s face it, bringing in more floods for your business is only beneficial if you have strong operational systems in place to carry the jobs through to completion. Even if you have been in the industry for years, there is always room for improvement. While operational styles may vary from business to business, there is a basic anatomy of a water damage job every water restoration company should follow.
- Answer the Call: Seems obvious, right? Apparently it is not so obvious, since many water restoration companies lose jobs simply because they aren’t answering their phones in a timely fashion. Once the call is answered, remember the person on the other end is in the midst of an emergency, show you compassion every time you talk with someone about a flood in their home or business. The longer it takes you to arrive on the job from the initial call, the more chance of losing the job.
- Use the Flowchart: From the time of the very first phone call, use a flowsheet to track every step of the water damage job. All of our More Floods members receive a library of useful forms, including a flowchart which outlines the job from first contact, to estimate, to final payment. It give you a consistent result every time.
- Your Initial Visit: Before ending the initial phone call, schedule a time for a visit to the client’s home. Carefully make a detailed estimate for the job, using a handwritten estimate sheet which is provided to all More Floods members. Always proceed with empathy, remembering their life has been significantly and unexpectedly disrupted.
- Sell Your Company: During that first visit, don’t just give an estimate and leave. Spend time selling your company, convince the client you are the best value in the area. Provide referrals and testimonials which speak highly of your previous work. Closing percentage is everything. If you are not tracking your closing percentage you should start immediately. You will be shocked with the results.
- Complete the Job: Once you have secured the job, you can get started doing what you do best. Always treat the clients home with the utmost respect, being careful of the belongings and cleaning the site completely after the job is complete. Throughout the job, communicate with your crew, using the flowchart to guarantee no aspect of the job has been missed. You want them to report positive to the referring party.
- Follow Up: Before you leave the home after completing the job, schedule a time for the next monitoring. This will make your scheduling life much easier. Stay in touch with the customer and ask for a testimonial after every satisfactory job.
- Keep in Touch with the Insurance Adjuster: Check in with the insurance adjuster handling the claim for each job. Always follow up within 10 days after completing a job and avoid letting a bill go past 30 days unpaid.
